We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up frogs with. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because...... WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY, no video/dvd  films, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms.......... WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no Lawsuits from these accidents. Only girls had pierced ears! We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time... We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays, We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them! Mum didn't have to go to work to help dad make ends meet! RUGBY and CRICKET or SOCCER had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on MERIT   Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and bully's always ruled the playground at school. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! Our parents didn't invent stupid names for their kids like 'Kiora' and 'Blade' and 'Ridge' and 'Vanilla'     "And we never had a whole Mars bar until 1993"!!!     We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL ! And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS! Jim Rohn truly was a success; a master of motivation and someone whose work has touched most everyone in our company.

So, it was with great sadness that we heard this inspirational genius lost his battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis on Saturday 5 December.

Low earners are being pushed to crisis point as the recession makes their finances even more vulnerable, a report has warned.

More than 14 million people whose average household income is £15,800 are overlooked by the Government because they are not poor enough to qualify for benefits, the Resolution Foundation said.

It found the majority (51%) have less than £1,500 in savings tucked away as a safety net and 24% spend more than a quarter of their monthly income on debt.

"We're finding that a lot of low earners are in a very difficult position once they've lost their job as they don't understand what to do," said Sue Regan, chief executive of the independent research and policy group.

"They don't get the information or support that other groups can get.

"So really there's a limited amount of support that low earners can get at the moment."

Self-employed builder Sammy Lockie, who has not had regular work for months, said he now has to rely on his partner's income as she is the only one to earn money in the home.

"Without this money or income each month, without that steady pay cheque or PAYE, then none of this would be here," said the 33-year-old from Barnets, London.

"I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you. I don't know what would happen really.

"It's a struggle. Someone needs to do something."

Our Independent debt adviser said many people like Sam are finding their finances spiralling out way out of control.

"Even if they do get a job it maybe at a lower rate than previously and suddenly they find that housing costs, council tax... the next thing they know they might have thousands of pounds worth of debt."

The Government has insisted it is doing everything possible to help low earners during the economic downturn.

"People really should go to their local council or their local job centre and find out if they can get housing benefit or council tax benefits," said Helen Goodman MP, from the Department of Work and Pensions.

"Those are both benefits that you can get in work, as well as out of work."

Hey Gerry!

I was inspired to write this email
after thinking about the meaning of
this day... "Thanksgiving", and coming
to a conclusion of what it is I'm
actually most thankful for.

I want to share it with you right
now, because it's something many
of us Humans seem to forget from
time to time, and it can have a
profound impact on our well being.

What I am MOST thankful for...

Is LIFE Itself.

I am thankful to be ALIVE.

I am thankful to be alive right
here, right now, in this space.

And when I really reflect on it...

Life itself is possibly the biggest
gift ANY OF US could ever receive,
and how often do we completely take
it for granted.

How often do we get wrapped up in
the "Stories" inside our head about
"how bad we have it" or "this happened
to me or that happened to me"...

And we forget that the very fact
we are ALIVE is actually a gift.

An unexplainable, complete mystery.

In fact, all you have to do is look
up at the stars on a clear night...

And stare into the INFINITY that is
our universe, the INFINITY that is
our actual HOME...

And anyone paying attention can
instantly realize that life is a
gift.

That the very fact we exist...
is unexplainable.

We are just here. And the point
of being here... is just to live.

In essence, living is a gift.

A mysterious, beautiful, wondrous
gift IF we choose to perceive it
that way.

But see... that's the fun part.

We have to ask ourselves, how often
do we choose to perceive life NOT
as a gift?

How often do we choose to perceive
life as a struggle, a pain, or a
problem?

How often do we get so wrapped up
inside the stuff that continues
to burn through our head...

I want more money, I can't stand
my job, this person really ticks
me off, my boss stinks, my job
stinks, I won't be happy until
I get this or that...

And on and on it goes.

How often do we let our perception
get carried away in the trivial,
truly MEANINGLESS things in life...

And forget the GLORY, the absolute
MAJESTY of the fact we even exist?

You see... it's a CHOICE.

You can choose to see the world
as Beauty, Truth, and LOVE right
now. You honestly can, right now.

Or you can choose to see the world
as a problem, cruel, unfair, mean,
disappointing, or sad...

The choice is COMPLETELY yours.

And I'm not here to tell you what
way to see it.

All I can say is... life is insanely
happier when you choose the first
perspective over the 2nd one! :)

You know it's funny...

You could be HAPPY, fulfilled, filled
with adventure, and experience the joy,
the mystery, the love that is all
contained within life... while you
are dead broke.

Or you could be pissed off, somewhat
depressed, a bit senile, closed,

Again, the choice is yours.

Make your child a millionaire...




More than half of UK children believe they will become a millionaire one day.
This is how to make sure your child doesn't grow up with the
crushing disappointment of not being a millionaire.
In the midst of a recession, our kids remain undaunted.
Although only 0.5% of the nation is currently a millionaire,
51% of our six to 10-year olds believe that they will manage it,
according to new research from Tesco Savings.

The kids are right
Now you might expect me to embark on a rant about our ugly
material values and the inflated financial expectations we give our kids,
but I am not going to do that.
Kids are right to want to be millionaires, because I imagine
(and sadly, I can only imagine) that a millionaire is a very useful thing to be.
A lot of my day-to-day worries could be solved by the swift injection of a
seven-figure sum, such as deadlines, the cleaning, our
conked tumble dryer and drafty windows.
Millionaires do not have to worry about these things,
and kids know that. They are not stupid.
Parental duty
And I do not see why parents cannot give them a helping hand.
All must have prizes, and if the prize just happens to be a million pounds,
then surely it is the duty of every modern parent to supply it.
Here are some tips and ideas to make sure your child avoids growing
up with the crushing disappointment of not being a millionaire.
Hand it over
Of course the easiest way to make your child a millionaire is to
simply give them a million pounds.
As Winston Churchill said, saving is good, especially if
your parents do it on your behalf.
So come on mums and dads, fork up!
In the entirely possible event that you cannot lay your hands on
a million pounds in ready cash, you need to draw up a strategy
to GET THAT CHILD A MILLION.
Here are some suggestions.
Die
Get your house valued. Is it worth a million pounds?
If so, then your childs path to riches is wide open.
In fact, only one thing stands in their way: You.
You do not have to die immediately.
You might want to wait until they are 18, and a little more fiscally
responsible, before you pop off. And if you have more than one child,
or for some astonishing reason your house is not worth a million
(should have moved to London!), you might want to leave it a little longer.
Parenting is all about making sacrifices, and this is the ultimate, after all.
You know they are worth it. Not altogether sure this is a good idea?
Well, if you are not willing to die to make your children rich, then you
will be encouraged to hear you have other options, too.

Work
The easiest way to make your child a millionaire is to be one yourself.
Set up your own business, work every hour God sends, and with a little luck and
a lot of application, you could one day be worth a pleasing seven figures.
Your kids will thank you for it, and if you are lucky,
they might even join the family business to keep it going.
Given the state of the job market, they may have little alternative.
So, when you get up for work tomorrow, decide to become a millionaire.
You owe it to your child.
Play
Play the lottery. Duh!
Save
I have done some number crunching here, and I have worked out that it is
possible to make your child a millionaire by saving, provided you start
early and put aside a lot of money every month.
If you save £1,350 a month for 25 years, and earn an average compound
interest rate of 7% a year, you will accumulate £1,063,485.
If you think 25 years is too long to wait for your child to become a millionaire,
and 18 would be fairer, you will have to save £2,500 a month.
That is actually less than I would have expected, but there are one or two provisos.
First, you may have more immediate uses for that money. Such as food.
These figures assume you start saving the moment your kids are born, and
also ignore the wily taxman, who will take a fair chunk of your annual growth,
especially after the anticipated demise of the tax-free child trust fund (CTF).
Outside the CTF, only the first £100 of interest and on a child savings account
is tax-free. The rest is taxable on the parents.
So you might need to pay in a lot more. But again, are your kids worth it?
Of course they are.
Plan
There is a more affordable way to make your children millionaires,
but inevitably, it will take a lot more time. About 55 years.
You can take out a pension on your child's behalf, and invest £3,600 a year.
If save £150 a month from birth and continue saving right through your child's
adulthood, they will have £1,075,978 by age 55, which is the earliest you can
draw a private pension (to be increased from 50 in April).
Better still, you can claim tax relief on your contributions, at either 20%, and
there is no annual tax bill on the growth.
Your kids will have to pay tax when they draw the income, but that is their lookout.
They have to do something for themselves, and age 55 is a good time to start.
